
The following information is to help you set up and access your NPC Internet course.
Your Internet course uses a program created to offer courses on the Internet. It is called WebCT. To get familiar with how WebCT works, check out the sites below.
Learn how to use WebCT
Before you go to the course website, you’ll want to visit the Student Orientation Center site for WebCT. Go the WebCT site at http://www.webct.com Click on the white tab in the upper right-hand corner that is labeled “For Students”. The student site, Student Resource Center, is has a variety of useful links for students. The one you will want to check out first is the Orientation site. Just click on “Student Orientation” and you will be taken to a site that has several good orientations/tutorials developed by different colleges. You can click on any of these to get a good orientation to taking classes using WebCT.
At the bottom of that same page is a section titled “Help Using WebCT”. You can click on that link and get a lot of your questions answered.
Under “More Orientation Resources”, there is a link that you should check out to make sure that your Internet browser will work correctly with WebCT. It is titled, “ Give Your Browser a Tune-up”. You should check this before you try to get into the WebCT course site.
How to get to your Northland Pioneer College WebCT Course Site
Go to http://courses5.webct.com
A screen will provide two options: Create myWebCT or Log on to myWebCT
Click on Create my WebCT: You
will only do this the first time you enter. This option allows you to fill
in the needed information. The next time you enter you will click on Log on
to myWebCT.
On the next screen fill in your name and the other required information.
Create your own WebCT ID and
Password. Be sure that you keep these in a safe place—You will need them
each time you log on.
The next screen requires you to log in using the ID and password that you just created.
4. At the next screen you can add a course. Click Add Course (at the top left of the screen)
5. The next screen provides a
list of colleges on the left column. Scroll down until you see Northland Pioneer
College. Click on
Northland Pioneer College.
This will bring up a list of courses offered on WebCT at NPC. Scroll down the list of courses in the right column until you find the one you want. Click on the name of the course. This will add the course to your WebCT
The next screen will ask to fill
in the username and password that your school has given you or self-register.
You do not have a username and password designated by the school, so you
should self-register. Click the button that says “Register”.
The next screen will tell you that
the requested course has been added. At this point, you can choose to add
another course, go to the course website for the course that you just added,
or return to my WebCT. My WebCT is your initial page where you first go when
you log in.
Remember, after the first time that you enter you no longer need choose to Create my WebCT; just Log on to my WebCT. Then go to Contractor Issues and click to enter the course.
