Syllabus

 

I.              COURSE DESCRIPTION:

 

Designed to acquaint the student with the different  areas of mental illness, including causes, symptoms, and treatments.

 

III.          TEXT:

 

"Abnormal Psychology, Unraveling the Mystery",  Kenrick, Neuberg, & Cialdini

 

III.          LEARNING ACTIVITIES:

 

A. The student will read the chapters corresponding to the class discussion and lecture.

 

B. The student will answer the five take home essay questions  for each chapter.

 

C. The student will do a 6-10 page research paper, typed, and double-spaced.  

 

IV.          EVALUATION:

 

Students will be awarded points based on:

 

A.            Essay tests.

 

B..          Research paper.

 

V.          GRADING SCHEME:

 

90 - 100% = A

80 -  89%  = B

70 -  79%  = C

60 -  69%  = D

 

 

VI.        RESEARCH PAPER

 

Length:        6-10 pages (text), typed double-spaced (12 pt. print).  A minimum of five           references.

 

Style:         A.P.A. or  M.L.A.

 

Topic:        Student's choice with prior approval of the instructor.

 

Date due:        Four weeks  prior to the end of the semester.

 

 

*Student is required to turn in two copies of their research paper.  Please keep an additional copy for your own records.
