240 SYLLABUS I.
COURSE DESCRIPTION: A
survey and exploration
of the issues and concepts dealing
with age-related behavior and developmental
changes during
each of the different periods of our life span:
from conception, childhood, adolescence, adulthood, old age and death.
It includes the physical (body changes and motor skills); cognitive
(thought and language); psychosocial (emotions, personality, and social relationships) during each period of the life span. II.
GOAL STATEMENT: The
purpose of PSYC. 240 is to provide the student with an overview
of the human
developmental process as
it relates to all of the internal growth and intellectual
changes, as well as social changes as the human
learns of the world. III. TEXT: Life-Span Development", John W. Santrock, 7th ed. IV. LEARNING ACTIVITIES: A.
The student will read the chapters
corresponding to the lecture and discussion. B. The
student will complete each
quiz as the class progresses through
the text. Each
quiz will
cover two consecutive chapters. C.
The student will either do a 6-10
paged research paper, typed, and
double-spaced or five
experiments, 2-3
pages each. V.
EVALUATION: Students
will be awarded points based on: A.
Test results. B.
Research paper or 5 experiments. VI. GRADING SCHEME: 90
- 100% = A 80
- 89% = B 70
- 79% = C 60 - 69% = D VII.
ATTENDANCE: Attendance
will be taken. RESEARCH
PAPER Length:
6-10 pages (TEXT), typed, double-spaced.
***Print should not be larger than 12 pt.
A minimum
of five references. Style:
A.P.A., M.L.A., or alternative style
agreed upon
with instructor. Topic:
Student's choice with prior approval
of
instructor. Date due:
Four weeks prior to the end
of the
semester. *Each student is required to submit two copies of their research paper to the instructor. EXPERIMENTS Length:
2-3 pages each, typed, ouble-
spaced. ***Print should not be
larger than 12 pt. Amount:
5 experiments. Topic:
The 5 listed in the packet or any
other with prior approval. Process:
Follow the outline for experimental
design. Date due:
Four weeks prior to the end
of the
semester. *Each
student is required to submit two copies of their experiments to the
