BUSINESS 128 SPREADSHEET APPLICATIONS FOR BUSINESS

COURSE SYLLABUS FOR EXCEL 2007 VERSION

 

 

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

 

Students will learn how to design and use electronic spreadsheets for use in business analysis, forecasting, accounting, and presentations.  Using Microsoft EXCEL 2007, students will be able to create worksheets with embedded charts, perform what-if analysis, link worksheets with Word documents, create templates and web pages, and use visual basic, hyperlinks, pivot tables, and data maps. 

 

PREREQUISITES:

 

AIS 100 Keyboarding or ability to type,  and CIS 100 Intro to Computer Science or CIS 106 Computer Literacy or Instructor’s permission.

 

REQUIRED TEXT AND MATERIALS:

TEXT ISBN:
 978-076383007-6.
Textbooks do not include EXCEL 2007 software.    Student template containing textbook files on CD is included with text.

ATTENDANCE:

 

The NPC catalog states, “Upon entering Northland Pioneer College, a student assumes the responsibility of completing each course for which s/he is registered.  The student is expected to attend all sessions of the classes in which s/he is enrolled.  Any student who has three (3) absences without excuses acceptable to the instructor, medical or otherwise, may be dropped from the class.  Students who miss the first two (2) meetings of the class may also be dropped.  After a student has been dropped from the class for unexcused absences, an appeal for reinstatement will be considered only under extenuating circumstances.” (NPC Catalog.)

COURSE REQUIREMENTS:

 

This is a “hands-on” course with emphasis on applications and simulations.  You will complete the  work in MS EXCEL 2007 and then send it to me as an email attachment.  I will grade your work and record them on a point sheet, which I will attach to you.  If you send me work and do not hear from me within at least a week, you need to email me again.   All work is scored and you will always receive a grade point sheet.   You are allowed to redo any assignments where you had problems and resubmit them to me.  Do not get behind on your work! 

In order to “pass” this class with a C, you will need to have enough points as listed below for a C.  Incompletes “I” grades will only be given under very special circumstances and only if you are 85 percent through the course as listed in the NPC Catalog.

 

EVALUATION METHOD:

 

The grade you earn is based on the total number of points you have on the last day of class using the grading scale below.
