COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This advanced course covers features of MS Office Suite 2007 Windows XP version. Programs include: MS Word, Excel, and Access. Students will apply problem to solving techniques to complete professional looking documents and projects. Students successfully completing this and Introduction to MS Office will be prepared to take the Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) Certification exams go to www.msn.com for more information.
PREREQUISITES:
CIS 230 Introduction to MS Office This course begins with many advanced features. A good knowledge of basics is required.

System Requirements: MICROSOFT OFFICE 2007 SOFTWARE:
· Windows XP with Service Pack 2 or later, or Windows Vista
· 500 MHz processor or higher; 256 MB RAM or higher
· DVD drive
· 2 GB of available hard-disk space
· 800 x 600 minimum monitor resolution; 1024 x 768 recommended
· Computer mouse or compatible pointing device
Internet students with OFFICE 2007 WINDOWS XP go back on the website and click on the course syllabus for the book information for the version of Office you will need for this class.
ATTENDANCE:
Upon entering Northland Pioneer College, students assume the responsibility of completing each course for which they are registered. Students are expected to attend all sessions of the classes in which they are enrolled. Any student who has three (3) absences without excuses acceptable to the instructor, medical or otherwise, may be dropped from the class. Students who miss the first two (2) meetings of the class may also be dropped. After a student has been dropped from the class for unexcused absences, an appeal for reinstatement will be considered only under extenuating circumstances (NPC CATALOG http://www.npc.edu/ )You will need to email me at least once a week.
At most campuses/centers, open labs are available for students (a schedule is available within the first two weeks). This course will require 6 TO 12 hours per week additional computer time outside of class for successful completion of assignments. All students must follow college/lab electronic usage policies and student conduct code.
You are not penalized for completing this course early. However, you may be penalized for turning work in late.
COURSE COMPETENCIES/OUTCOMES:
Use advanced features (graphics, merging, templates, hyperlinks, tables, formatting, and columns) of MS Word 2007 to prepare various professional documents.
Create a Web page with graphics, buttons, and hyperlinks using MS Word 2007.
Use MS Excel 2007 to create various business documents using advanced features (calculations, functions, assumptions, and goal seeking)...
Use MS Access 2007 to develop databases.
Integrate MS Word, Excel, and Access.

GETTING STARTED:
Do not open your textbooks until you make sure you have correct text and are in right class. The bookstore will not give refunds on textbooks with broken seals.
Read this course syllabus thoroughly! This guide will explain everything you need to know for successful completion of this course. You will need to bring it with you for each class session. Follow the course schedule carefully noting due dates and assignments. Do only assignments listed.
Complete entire chapter before completing end of chapter review.
Complete all course requirements. (See below.)
COURSE REQUIREMENTS:
Complete each chapter reading and completing projects. The “Quick Steps” and “hints” are there to help you through each project. Projects are broken down into parts (a, b, c, d, etc.)
Ask questions, look in your text and follow your CD (The solutions for these are on the CD so you can grade your projects and understand anything you miss.)
Chapter Summaries and Command Reviews are not assigned, but you will want to review them. These will help you with the Concepts Checks, which you will answer and give to your instructor.
Label and save your work appropriately these will be turned in to your instructor in your folder. INTERNET STUDENTS: Sending work--You will complete the assignments in the appropriate programs, label and save appropriately, and then attach to me in emails
You are allowed to redo and resubmit any assignments where you had problems and resubmit them
Follow the course schedule so you do not fall behind. There is not a penalty for finishing ahead of time; you can be penalized for turning in late work
Chapter projects (may be completed with assistance from instructor): 1 pt. each.
Concepts Check (use your textbook as a research guide in answering these questions): 1 pt. each
Skills Assessments (These must be completed without asking for assistance from anyone. You may use your textbook as a reference.): 5 pts. each
Case Studies: (These must be completed without asking for assistance from anyone. You may use your textbook as a reference.): 10 pts. each
Assessing Proficiency Unit Assessments (These must be completed without asking for assistance from anyone. You may use your textbook as a reference): 15 pts. each.
In order to “pass” this class with a C, you will need to have enough points as listed below for a C. Incompletes “I” grades will only be given under very special circumstances and only if you are 85 percent through the course as listed in the NPC Catalog.
